This Pendragon, Elias, has all the attributes of a stellar chief of state, and has inherited a vibrant, though still recovering culture and economy from his predecessor Queen Guinevere, who was the only experienced candidate to fill the void immediately following Arthur’s death.
This latest edition of the yearly released series began in 2021 with the advent of Volume 1: The Aftermath of the King, and was somehow followed up with equal lyrical momentum the following year with Camelot Chronicles Volume 2: The Lion of Camelot.
Now in 2023, another image is applied to the tapestry as a fully mature King sets to take center stage and reveal to the world a glimpse of what a truly just society would look like, if their leaders would selflessly put the good of the nation before their own whims and desires, and insure that every citizen was secure of property and person, offering to all a chance to be educated and advance socially, politically and economically. However, King Elias Pendragon, grandson of arguably the most famous King in history: Arthur, that shining example of chivalry and truth, must first solve the traditional problems of royalty: marriage and war.
King Elias Pendragon, now armed with Excalibur and firmly established as the ruler of Camelot, is suddenly faced with conundrums that no sword can conquer. Shanista, daughter of a thwarted usurper and love interest of the first knight of the realm, is on trial for the attempted murder of former Queen Guinevere. Is there a way for this matter to be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties involved? Or will Shanista be the next woman to tear apart the court of Camelot?
Elias is expected to form a marital union of his own. Torn between conflicting emotions, will he accept Belinda, the logical and expected choice as his wife and queen? Or like Sir Lancelot, is he hopelessly in love with a woman who is already betrothed to his closest friend? It will take the new King and all his councilors’ wisdom to successfully navigate these imminent issues and domestic controversies.
Meanwhile the Vikings of Scandia have united, mass producing the most dangerous weapon from the Roman world and are equipped with enhanced metallurgy and a terrifying navy. They are subjugating the continent of Europe, which cries out to Camelot for assistance. Will King Elias be able to rally his country in time to meet this enemy on neutral ground? Or will Pendragon’s kingdom be the next to fall to the northern pagan menace?
The Court of Camelot predominantly desired Lady Belinda to marry the new King Elias, due to her noble birth and the genuine fondness she held for the young knight turned King. Merlin, in the guise of Gregor of the Wood, informed the kingdom that Elias is in fact the son of Mordred, Arthur’s spawn via his half sister Morgana Le Faye. Arthur and Morgana met in a similar fashion to the way Oedipus and Jocasta met one another- not realizing they were close blood relations. Mordred grew up to terrorize the kingdom as Arthur lay dormant, depressed by the infidelity of his wife Guinevere, and champion knight Lancelot. At some point amid his pillaging, Mordred found the time to conceive a son, unbeknownst to his mother Morgana, and that son was Elias, taken from his mother in infancy to be raised by a humble knight, just as Arthur was.
Before Elias could be persuaded to marry Belinda, however, he ventured off unexpectedly to seek the artifact that would provide legitimacy to his rule- the famed Excalibur. Once Elias returned, the two were married. Lady Belinda did not evince any signs of ambition, but as Queen she will begin to grow into her new role, and relish being the prime mover of historical events. Watch, in Camelot Chronicles, Volume 3, Battle Ballad of the Royal Knight, how she will come into her own, wielding power at a time when many of the men have gone off to war. Queen Belinda is handling domestic policy, but Elias must go forth to stop the expansion of a new Viking empire, being led by one of the many sons of Zorgar, the supreme raider who was slain by Martain, one of Queen Guinevere's knight of the round, after she was restored to solitary rule following the death of Arthur, in order to serve as a place holder while a more perfect heir was to be found.
All these questions will be answered by Battle Ballad of the Royal Knight, the third installment of the critically acclaimed Camelot Chronicles series, written in melodic verse of joyful gravity. Step through a portal into an English Renaissance as engaging as anything History can provide.
